In the chair: Boardz by Lanz

Boardz by Lanz is a small South Australian based studio with a thoughtful purpose and a hands-on approach. Founded by Alana and Danny Roosa, this young family business brings together craftsmanship and care, transforming surplus solid surface acrylic from the construction industry into beautifully considered boards designed for everyday living.

The creating process

Each piece begins as an off-cut, rescued and reimagined. In their home workshop, every board is shaped, edged, hand-sanded and polished by Alana and Danny — a process repeated with care to achieve that signature smooth, silk-like finish. Grazing boards are individually measured, drilled and assembled, making each one subtly unique. It’s a labour-intensive process, often shared side by side — a quiet reflection of the partnership behind the brand.

I love that we have rescued 100s of tonnes of offcuts from construction projects of every scale. Materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill. Without Lachlan and Billy Edwards of Ideal Acrylic, who supply these materials, we couldn’t do what we do.” Alana Roosa, Boardz by Lanz.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these boards are made to be used and enjoyed. Non-porous, waterproof and resistant to heat, stains and bacteria, they move easily from kitchen to table, indoors to out. Free from crystalline silica and microplastics, they offer a considered alternative — durable, low-maintenance and consciously made.

Care note: These beautiful multi-use boards are not suitable for dishwasher and are not suitable for use in ovens, barbecues or other cooking sources and should not be used as a heat mat. To clean, hand wash with hot soapy water after use.
